...........
.Making the Invisible Visible

........... The way we look at and find meaning in images is different from the way we read and find meaning in the written word. When text and image are seen together there is sometimes a kind of slippage that makes us aware of our contradictory roles as viewer and reader. My work explores this contradiction. The images come from encyclopedias, illuminated manuscripts and other texts where images and words appear side by side.

We now straddle book culture and cyberspace. Because we have a foot in both worlds, we are granted a glimpse into the way these technologies shape how we derive meaning from what we see. But it is like stepping from a dock onto a boat; we risk losing our balance by staring into the water between our feet. Meaning shifts and may be lost all together.
